Project Description

Chhun Residence, Phnom Phen, Cambodia
The owner acquired this huge 4000sqm site in Phnom Phen, Cambodia, for his dream house, which was designed by an European architect in accordance to the owner’s taste for grand, classical architecture. However, due to what seems to be an open-ended set of local planning and zoning guidelines, different types and intensity of building development is being implemented in the area, resulting in over-looking issues and a haphazard set of surrounding views. While the landscape strategies used were primarily to complement the classical and grand gestures set up in the architecture of the building, they were also worked in consciously to provide a more domestic and human scale to the otherwise larger-than-life proportions of the spaces and elements within the huge single-owner residential property.
